We had our Pinewood derby car races today. Grant's car "Blastoise" (a pokeman character) did pretty well. We finished in the middle of the pack, not too bad for our first year. Many people did compliment him on the design of his car. I think he had a good time, I know I enjoyed the races.
Grant learned how to use many new tools: Coping saw, Dremel, and a Rasp. I learned a lot from the speed tips that are on the internet.

Did you make the car? Where were the races? That sounds like fun!
The Pinewood derby is run by the scouts. Grant's Cub scout pack had the race at a local church. They have a fancy electronic track that is 60-70 feet long. The cars go down a ramp and then glide along a straight away to the finish line.
To make the car you, you first get a kit that is just four nails, 4 plastic wheels, and a rectangular block of wood. You then design, cut, shape, and paint your car. You also have to add weight to get up to the weight limit so your car will not be slow. You also have to polish the wheels and nails, and add graphite to reduce friction. It is very competitive as a few dad's take it very seriously.
You being one of them?? :)
That will be a fun memory for him one day. Thanks for the 4-1-1.
